ABOUT THERAPY
In therapy as in life, the way forward is often unclear. My job is to help you gain clarity on the internal psychological processes that are contributing to the problems in your life that led you to seek out help, and to work with you to let go of these destructive patterns. In order to achieve this, your job is to be as open and honest with me as possible about what you are experiencing both in the therapy session, and during difficult moments in your life outside the therapy office. I will listen and offer my observations on what may be contributing to your problems, which often has links to the past, and may be occurring in real-time in the present moment in therapy. Often, this process of pointing out and linking evokes strong feelings including anger, grief, sadness, guilt, happiness, and joy, which, with your permission, we will also work through together.
My way of working is highly experiential, so there is a consistent looking into how you are feeling in your body, and not merely examining what is happening in your conceptual mind. By looking deeply into problems and identifying patterns that are causing difficulties, people are able to overcome their self-destructive tendencies, understand and integrate their past, and change their lives. This can be a painful, invigorating, and joyful process.
I can help with:
-
Low mood and depression
-
Anxiety
-
Emotional problems (including anger and stress)
-
Grief and loss
-
Relationship difficulties
-
Chronic pain
-
Adjustment to neurological injury
-
Recovery from trauma and abuse
-
Functional neurological disorders
In your first session, I will conduct a psychological assessment which involves you talking about the reason for your visit. I will then work with you to create goals for therapy. This is a good opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. Subsequent sessions will focus on helping you achieve your goals.
